Jason Dennis of WTVM Newleader 9 Columbus, GA. And so far, we know and can see how God has blessed and inspired others once they have read about what happened to us during Alfred’s 20 years in the U.S. We were inspired by our pastors to share our testimony with the military and civilian communities. We believe we are blessed beyond measure to have made it through some very difficult times in our marriage. Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business? We are also proud to say that with God, anything is possible! We were able to write a book that changed our life since its release and will change other lives when they hear our testimony. We have received several comments from our readers. We are most proud of the fact that we know the book has already helped or encouraged couples to continue working on their marriages despite the challenges that the military (or life itself) brings. For current and prior service members and their spouses, it’s a reminder of what we face and what we sacrifice while serving our country. Each spouse told their version of the story which helps the readers look at the same situation but from different points of view. We not only talk about military life and explain what it’s like to serve in the armed forces, but we also talk about what happened during our marriage from the time Alfred entered boot camp up to his retirement in 2017. In order for this book to help others with their relationships, we had to be completely transparent about our experiences. It was intimidating because we were sharing with the world our private struggles and what we did to overcome them. Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.īecoming authors was the most intimidating thing we could ever do. And lastly, the infidelity caused financial issues and thoughts of suicide and depression.

The PTSD and the alcoholism caused the infidelity and bigamy. The deployments caused Alfred to have PTSD. The military contributed a great deal to the struggles of keeping our marriage afloat. Then there were times when writing made us angry or made us feel guilty about some of the bad decisions that we made concerning our relationship. There were times when writing was therapeutic and caused us to be reminiscent on how we met, our wedding day, becoming parents, and traveling overseas. It took us a little over a year to write the book but we were able to complete it and publish on Royce’s birthday this past August. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you? We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. “Battle Buddies” is the first of many books the couple plans to publish on their journey to become Best Selling Authors!

While the challenge focuses on marriage, it can also be applied to any relationship to rebuild the bond that may have been broken. The book also includes a “Ten Week Marriage Challenge” that will help couples restore, refresh, and renew their relationships. Their book covers serious issues to include PTSD, infidelity, suicide, bigamy, deployments, alcoholism, financial struggles, and Christianity. The book is titled “Battle Buddies: Never Leave Your Spouse Behind.” Through many struggles, trials, and separations, they managed to maintain their relationship and want to share their story with other military and civilian couples who may be experiencing some of the same situations. However, in 2017 after Alfred retired, the couple was inspired to write a book about their experience with being married while Alfred served in the military.
